Welcome to a special feature presented by the Asian Pacific Islander Employee Resource Group (API ERG) at the City of Sacramento. In this video, we celebrate the rich tapestry of cultures within our community as our members share their unique ethnic backgrounds and personal stories.

The API ERG was formed with the vision to foster a sense of belonging, promote networking, and enhance employee engagement among the city’s Asian and Pacific Islander employees. Our roots in the city are deep, growing from a beloved tradition—the annual Asian Pacific American Cultural Luncheon. This event, which ran from 2004 to 2018, united over 400 city employees each year to enjoy a feast of Asian and Pacific Islander cuisines and vibrant performances, from taiko drums to martial arts demonstrations.

Building on the spirit of these gatherings, the API ERG emerged in April 2021, supported by the City Manager’s Office, the Office of Diversity and Equity, and Councilmember Mai Vang. Our goal is to rekindle the strong sense of community and support that was cultivated through years of shared celebrations.

Join us as we delve into the stories of our members, exploring how their heritage shapes their experiences and contributions to the city of Sacramento. Through these personal reflections, we continue our mission to increase cultural awareness and create a welcoming space for all employees. Let's listen, learn, and celebrate together.
